District Fire Service Association Saale-Orla (registered association)
The district fire service association Saale-Orla was consolidated in 1994 from the former districts Lobenstein, Schleiz and the fire brigades in Pößneck.
The structure of the auxiliary fire brigades in the rural district is affected by the federal A9 motorway as well as the rivers Saale (with the Bleiloch dam) and Orla.
The district has organised its fire brigades according to those conditions. Alongside the A9 motorway the fire services were trained and equipped to deal primarily with accidents and assistance. The motorway is divided into sections and each allocated to a fire brigade. Here especially the fire brigades Schleiz, Triptis and the fire base South come into operation. Furthermore seven and respectively nine fire bases exist in Schleiz, Bad Lobenstein, Triptis, Neustadt an der Orla, Pößneck, fire base South (Tanna, Gefell, Hirschberg) and Wurzbach. Also the Hazardous Materials Response Team is structured according to the conditions of the district and constitutes the fire departments of Hirschberg, Triptis, Neustadt an der Orla, Bad Lobenstein, Schleiz, Wurzbach, plant fire brigade ZPR Blankenstein, Saalburg and Pößneck.
Specific technical information on the Hazardous Materials Response Team you can find here (German only).
In the District Fire Service Association of Saale-Orla 70 associations are represented. At present there are 1,742 members. The district is specifically active in youth work. Thirty-four Youth fire services with 372 members (99 of them girls) are organised here.
